Field Announced for Next Week’s Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai

KA’UPULEHU-KONA, Hawaii – The 42-player field is set for the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, which begins next week on the Island of Hawaii. The competition begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday, January 18, at Hualalai Golf Course.

“The stage is set for another fantastic week at the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island as we look forward to adding another chapter to this event in 2025,” said Tournament Manager Kelly Fliear. “We are excited for the return of Hall of Famers and past champions as well as the debut of first-timers at this picturesque backdrop.”

Defending champion and reigning Charles Schwab Cup winner Steven Alker returns to Hualalai as one of seven past champions in the 2025 field. He looks to join the multi-winner club at Hualalai, which includes three-time winners Bernhard Langer (2009, 2014, 2017) and Miguel Angel Jiménez (2015, 2020, 2022). Other past winners in this year’s field are Steve Stricker (2023), Darren Clarke (2021), Tom Lehman (2019) and Jerry Kelly (2018).

Langer, set to make his 18th appearance at Hualalai, is one of five World Golf Hall of Fame members teeing it up on the Island of Hawaii in 2025. He will be joined by Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Vijay Singh. Els won three times in 2024, including a senior major at the Kaulig Companies Championship, en route to a No. 2 finish in last year’s Charles Schwab Cup race.

Three players will make their Hualalai debuts in 2025: Ricardo Gonzalez, Tim O’Neal and Y.E. Yang. Each of them found the winner’s circle for the first time on PGA TOUR Champions in 2024: Gonzalez (Trophy Hassan II), Yang (Stifel Charity Classic) and O’Neal (Dominion Energy Charity Classic).

Other notables in the 2025 field include major winners David Duval, Stewart Cink, Mike Weir, David Toms and Justin Leonard along with Stephen Ames, who won three times in 2024, reigning Senior Open winner K.J. Choi.

All three rounds of the 2025 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai will be televised live on GOLF Channel, January 16-18. Fans who are interested in attending the event are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time by visiting MECgolf.com.
