Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Welcomes Four First-Timers in 2024

KA’UPULEHU-KONA, Hawaii – The 2024 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai field will feature four first-timers at the event, scheduled for January 18-20, on the Island of Hawaii.

Stewart Cink, winner of the 2009 Open Championship, will make his fifth overall start on PGA TOUR Champions since turning 50 last May. In his first four starts, Cink has collected three top-10s, highlighted by a third-place finish at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Cink is an eight-time winner on the PGA TOUR, mostly recently capturing two victories during the 2020-21 season.

Mark Hensby, Ken Duke and Harrison Frazar, who each broke through for their first wins on PGA TOUR Champions in 2023, will play at Hualalai for the first time in 2024. The trio became the 19th, 20th and 21st players to win on the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions and Korn Ferry Tour during their careers.

Hensby won the Invited Celebrity Classic (April 21-23) in a four-hole playoff over Charlie Wi in Irving, Texas. The 52-year-old Hensby, who finished 29th in the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup standings, notched one victory on the PGA TOUR, winning the 2004 John Deere Classic.

Duke found the winner’s circle at the Shaw Charity Classic presented by Rogers (Aug. 18-20) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The 54-year-old’s maiden PGA TOUR Champions triumph came in his 100th start on the Tour as he made birdie on the final hole of the event to win by one stroke. Duke finished 23rd in the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup standings.

Frazar’s victory came in the first event of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, as he edged Richard Green in a sudden-death playoff at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic (Oct. 20-22) in Richmond, Virginia. The 52-year-old finished 14th in the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup standings.

“One of the great joys of this event is giving an ‘Aloha Welcome’ to the competitors who are playing at Hualalai for the first time,” said Tournament Manager Kelly Fliear. “We are excited to have Stewart, Mark, Ken and Harrison experience this incredible place for the first time and add their names to the illustrious list of those who have played in this event.”
